About the Gaucho

Hi, I’m the Gaucho, well, I won’t lie, technically, I’m a gringo convert to gauchoism (gauchoism: noun – the Free thinking, nomadic, yerba-mate-drinking, freedom loving attitude toward life).

I started drinking yerba mate about 5 years ago and still drink on almost a daily basis, not because I have to but because it’s like a form of meditation. It’s a great chance to wind down, relax and share your experiences with friends and family. My 2 year old loves the stuff too, of course she really is half gaucha (her mother’s from Uruguay).

Anyway I’m posting this blog on common questions I’ve been asked over the years regarding yerba mate. You may also be subject to some of my own philosophies, life views and random rantings but I think you’ll find the experience education if not somewhat entertaining.

Chau for Now.

    Hey Gaucho,
I had a similar problem……. After leaving work early due to illness, my gourd was left with mate and water in it. I would say it sat for about a week before I realized where it had been moved to. The mate was black and the water had been evaporated. The inside of my gourd is now also black and kinda stinky. I washed it out and am going to dry it. Should I not use it again? And why would the wet mate turn black and moldy lookin?

Giving up coffee due to the acidity and was wondering if the smoked loose
leaf yerba mate is alkaline? Due to the smoking process does it still have
nutrition benefits like the green ?
